Amber Skin Review
Amber SkinThe Amber Skin, developed by Jester, Joethepartlylion and Pecin , has no Bloatware and uses your media with an easy to navigate interface. One of my favorites actually. In addition, it also uses some textures from Mediastream as well as some from Aeon skins. The Amber Skin is the next inline of our series of the “sort of review”. For those of you who are reading this for the first time, I’ve called it that because it’s not a review in the true sense. This is more of an opportunity for those who are considering trying a new skin but just can’t find any information on what to expect once it is opened. Nothing wrong with the other reviews available elsewhere. There’s just nothing (that I have found) that shows where the File Manager is located or even the Power Button for example. That’s what makes these “reviews” out of the ordinary and I think a great way to understand how and where to find your way around a new skin.
Installing the Amber SkinIf you have a clean 17 install, you will have to enable unknown sources first.
- Click Settings (cog)
- Choose System Settings
- Select Add-ons
- Toggle Unknown Sources
- A warning pop-up will appear
- Skin, click to open installed Skin Menu.
- Click Get more…..
- Scroll down to Amber Skin.
- Select to Install.
- Select Yes when prompted “to allow this change”.
Main Menu PageThe Main menu page also known as the Home Page will be shown in these next group of photos. You can understand why this Skin was named Amber can’t you! Tho the Colour may be different to what you’re used to, getting around it may seem familiar. The next group of photos are made in order of appearance. Take note under each Folder name in the Main Menu Bar is the Sub-menu that corresponds with each one.
- TV Shows
- Music Videos
- Add-on Browser.
File ManagerAccess the File Manager by Selecting Settings, then on the Right Panel select File Manager. Click Source to continue. In the next window, Select None. Enter the URL as indicated above. When completed, select DONE. Repeat when asked to Name the url.
Installing from a repositoryFrom the Main Menu/Home Page, select Settings. Once opened click Add-ons from the right side Panel as shown above. As a result of selecting Add-ons, you now have opened the Add-on Browser. Another method is to Select Add-ons in the Main Menu/Homepage and in the Sub-menu, click Add-on Browser. Either method will get you to the same folder. To continue, select Install from repository. Blamo Repo was selected again and the Add-on Neptune Rising was installed. Yes I have been using the same Repo with these reviews, but it’s just a matter of convenience for me. You will still use the same method with any Repo or Add-on you select. Once opened, scroll down to Video Add-ons and click to open. Select the Add-on you wish to install. Click Install to continue. As a consequence of selecting Install, please wait for each Dependency to install. These will vary from Add-on to Add-on. A notification of the installation process including the final Add-on Installed, will appear at the very top in the Amber skin as indicated by the Red Arrow above.
Amber Skin Media Views & Player SettingsThe Add-on Placenta was selected and the Movie file was Thor…..…… “wait a second ! Yes ! He changed it finally”. The Movie file selected was Star Wars: The last Jedi. The default View in the Amber Skin is List. To change, access the Options Panel located to the Far Left. Opening this panel can be done by moving the Cursor to the left using the Remote, Mouse or by selecting the Left Directional key on a Keyboard. Clicking repeatedly on Viewtype will change to the next in line. Stop when pleased with the new look. I prefer this method to find out the details of the Stream. It provides the information that I want to know. To find out how you can take advantage of using these figures, please click HERE and HERE for the links.
SubtitlesI’ll be describing the top row of Five (5) icons above the usual group. We all know what those do by now. As you can see, when selecting the TV Icon, you have the option to Download Subtitles, but only if you have a Service Enabled in Kodi . Click here to find out how. If you wish to not Enable Subtitles that are Soft Coded, click on Enabled. The Indicator light will disappear. If the stream you have selected has “Hard Coded” (embedded/coded into the stream) Subtitles, disabling will have no affect at all. You may have to try a different source.
BookmarksThe next Icon is Bookmarks. The bottom photo indicates what you will see when selected. If you have to stop viewing the stream for an extended period of time, you may create a Bookmark at any point. When ready to view it again, it will be saved and ready for viewing from that position.
InformationThe i Icon is for Information. Not much of a change from what was available when searching for a Movie File shown in Views.
Audio & VideoThe Two Cog Wheel Icon is for:
- Audio and Subtitle Settings
- Video Settings
- Toggle Audio Stream does not respond when selected.
A very nice Skin to use. Easy, simple and if you don’t mind the “Amber” colour scheme then give it a try. Stop by The Streaming World Forum for information on Skins and many more Interesting and informative topics, it’s free to join.
