Removing Non-Functional Addon Scraper
Add-on ScraperWhat is an Add-on Scraper and what does it do for me in Kodi Add-ons? “Kodi has the built-in optional function to automatically download metadata information, cover art and other related media artwork online through its web scrapers that looks for media in the user’s audio and video folders and their sub-directories. These “scrapers” are used as importers to obtain detailed information from various Internet resources about movies and television shows. ” (Source) If you use p2p add-ons, torrents, or in countries that prohibit streaming use a vpn from a reputable provider like Private Internet Access. You can unblock many “dns censored” sources with a smartdns solution.
How will I know if a Scraper is workingSince most of us have all experienced the dreaded “spinning working icon”, I’ll show few examples for those who have yet to come across this. After selecting a movie file to stream from your add-on, the photo above is usually what you’ll encounter. Some Add-ons may be different. For this article, I have chosen the Placenta Add-on at random. The Movie selected is Thor: Ragnarok, take note of the number of 1080p, 720p links. The Paid links are Real Debrid sources. As a result of doing a search, you will then be shown a list of sources to select from. When this article was first considered, there was/is an issue with the 2DDL scraper as indicated by the red dots. After selecting the first listed link, after trying a short time to open, it failed and moved on to the next available scraper. Which in this case happened to be # 02. This source opened the movie successfully.
Indicator of a Failing ScraperDue to some scrapers being arranged differently from one add-on to another, you may come across a list of the same scraper that may have as many as 7-10 in a row. In the example above there are only 3. You can imagine how long the wait is as each scraper is tested then moves on to the next after each one fails. Needless to say, you wanted to view a movie, not the working icon spinning away. Out of frustration, I know many of you have just hit cancelled and tried another link. Always blaming the Add-on or your internet as the culprit, when in fact it was just that one scraper. Can this be fixed and if so how ? Before showing you how, you must understand why a Scraper is not working correctly. When a Dev does an update to their add-on, everything is in working order. But from time to time a scraper may stop searching for any of a number of reasons. The site itself gets changed at their end for example, thus rendering it useless in the add-on. This is one of the reasons a good dev will push an update with a correction. Alas, some devs do get bogged down thru no fault of their own with other issues and let their add-ons slide.
Where to locate Scraper listThere are basically two (2) ways to access the scraper list in an Add-on. Either entering Tools> Providers via the Settings or using General > Providers via Settings. The following is the Placenta Add-on: After opening the Add-on, scroll down to Tools and click to proceed. Scroll down to Providers, then move the cursor to the right and select the Scraper in question. In this example, 2DDL happens to be located at the top. To disable, click anywhere in the blue area, then select OK to exit. Add-ons using this method via Tools- Providers are :
- Death Streams / Death Streams RD
Second Option to Locate Scraper ListOption # 2, Settings- General- Providers. Add-ons using this format:
- At The Flix
- Copy & Paste?
